Chassis touch-screen displays bring a number of truly compelling advantages to kiosk design. A kiosk chassis display is unconstrained by plastic desktop monitor housings. A kiosk chassis monitor's perforated metal housing allows for proper heat ventilation ans avoids premature backlight burnout. This helps make it possible to implement streamlined ventilation that works well in an wide range of configurations. Another thing to keep in mind is that LCD's do not emit as much heat as a standard CRT's, which can minimize traditional heat related problems of standard desktop monitors.

Rear-mount monitors are normally metal, with ventilation slots for cooling, and are designed to be used within an outer enclosure, such as a kiosk.  Rear-mount monitors often include a "minibezel," typically made of plastic, which protects the touch components and provides a watertight seal. The outer cabinet opening typically matches and covers the monitor bezel, providing its own aesthetics.

Panelmount / Frontmount

Panel- or front-mount monitors are similar to rear-mount monitors, with the exception that they are inserted through the opening from the front, with the monitor bezel remaining exposed. This is the preferred configuration for process control and machine control applications. The front panel is typically metal, stainless steel or aluminum, and may be painted. The bezel also provides a seal between the touchscreen and front panel, and between the front panel and the mounting location.
